12 Movies You Wrongly Thought Bombed In 2018
7. Skyscraper

Budget: $125 million
Box Office: $304.1 million
The box office narrative surrounding Dwayne Johnson's recent Die Hard knock-off painted the film as an outright failure for The Rock, yet the numbers tell a different story.
While Universal was clearly hoping for a Rampage-sized $400+ million final total, Skyscraper opened below expectations, with analysts citing several possible reasons - the crowded summer movie slate, the familiar premise and especially "Dwayne Johnson fatigue" given the star's seeming ubiquity (despite starring in just two movies in 2018).
The blockbuster ended up grossing 2.43x its budget, which was sensibly a little smaller than most CGI-fuelled tentpoles of this scale.
And as is so common these days, a mediocre domestic performance was compensated for by stronger overseas revenue, with Skyscraper making 77.7% of its money internationally.
Making an insane $98.4 million in China alone - that's 32.3% of its entire global take - it's clear that while the U.S. might be growing tired of The Rock, the rest of the world sure isn't.
