12 Oscar Winning Actors Who Starred In Awful Horror Movies
8. Morgan Freeman - Dreamcatcher
Yet another terrible Stephen King adaptation featuring yet another soon-to-be Oscar winner, the author himself has said he disliked his version of Dreamcatcher and that the book was written under the influence of OxyContin. Which explains why it’s such a mess, but doesn’t quite explain why somebody saw fit to try and turn it into a movie.
A frequent offender on ‘worst movie ever’ lists, Dreamcatcher focuses on a group of lifelong friends who reunite during an annual hunting trip only to have their male bonding time rudely interrupted by an alien invasion, with Morgan Freeman playing the ruthless and slightly deranged US army colonel sent in to contain the extra-terrestrial problem.
Why an actor like Freeman, who went on to win Best Supporting Actor for Million Dollar Baby a couple of years after Dreamcatcher’s release and has four further Oscar nominations to his name, would subject himself to such a film is anybody’s guess.
To be fair to Freeman, he wasn’t the only film industry talent attached to the sh*t-fest that was Dreamcatcher. Co-star and future Homeland actor Damian Lewis, Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and two-time Academy Award winning screenwriter William Goldman all lowered their standards when signing up for the movie.
