3. Triangle

Directed by Creep helmer Christopher Smith, Triangle is a time travel thriller from 2009 which was the horror director’s first foray into more surreal territory, though you’d never know it given the film’s confident handling of the complex material.

More human than the clinical Shane Carruth directorial debut Primer and less blackly comic than Nacho Vigalondo’s superficially similar Timecrimes, Triangle is a horror-sci-fi mash up that demands multiple viewings to go with its many timelines.

As the films opens, the protagonist finds herself adrift in the ocean on an empty cruise liner, pursued by some shadowy figure—only none of that is quite true, a fact which viewers uncover as this strange and unsettling sci fi twists and turns.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
