12 Sci-Fi Movie Endings That Were Almost Completely Different

Sure, Generations isn’t perfect.

But after fans had waited what felt like forever to see Captains Kirk and Picard share the screen, this adventure didn’t disappoint and was a successful, agreeably cheesy addition to the franchise. One scene which even the hardest hearted Trekkie could sign off on was the dramatic demise of Kirk, who sacrifices himself to fighting Malcolm McDowell’s nefarious Soran to buy Picard time to foil his galaxy-ending plot.

Naturally the ploy succeeds, but McDowell was originally intended to shoot Kirk whilst his back was turned, a cowardly end for an iconic figure who had survived so many scrapes until this point. Fortunately, the scene was reshot in order to inject the appropriate pathos, and so we got the stronger ending we now know and love for everyone's favourite captain—yeah, we said it.
