12 Sci-Fi Movie Remakes Coming In 2020 (And Beyond)

Sometimes, it feels like there's been a live-action Akira remake in the works for as long as there's been cinema with not a great deal of activity for extended periods of time, but the cogs are definitely still turning.

Recently, Get Out and Us director Jordan Peele was linked to the directing job with Paramount hoping the Ghost In The Shell adaptation would kick up interest a little. Unfortunately, that didn't exactly go to plan and Peele became another near-hire for the project, which came closest to reality when Jaume Collet-Serra had the job and Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart were set to star.

Now, though, Taika Waititi is the man charged with remaking the seminal anime and while he last said he was still getting his head around it, his plan is to adapt the original manga rather than the anime and avoid whitewashing at all. All good news. Again, it's coming, it just might take its time.
