12 Sci-Fi Movies Plagued By Reshoots

The DCEU maybe doing better now, thanks to hits such as Wonder Woman and Shazam!, but boy did it get off to a rough start.

Much of the criticism of Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, stemmed from their dark and gritty tone. Fearing that the next installment, Suicide Squad, would suffer a similar fate, Warner Bros. commissioned reshoots a whole eight months after filming had initially wrapped.

The reshoots were intended to insert a few more humorous scenes into the film, but when it was revealed that the additional filming had cost double what normal reshoots usually cost, it became clear that the entire movie was being altered.

But it didn't stop there, with the studio taking editing duties away from director David Ayer and his team and handing them over to the company who made the admittedly excellent trailers for the film.

Now it must be said that Suicide Squad did very well financially and even won an Oscar (for Best Makeup and Hairstyling), but reviewers were less than kind with the criticism aimed at the incoherent editing and clashing tones. And after all the hype surrounding Jared Leto's Joker, his presence in the film was rarely felt, with almost all his scenes being left on the cutting room floor.

As a result the DCEU was thrust into further turmoil, with many of the planned spin-offs and sequels either cancelled or heavily postponed.

What a mess.
