12 Sci-Fi Movies Plagued By Reshoots

Ok let's be honest, Geostorm was never going to be a good movie. But somehow the reshoots made it even worse.

First time director Dean Devlin, known best for his collaborations with Roland Emmerich, had wrapped filming on the disaster flick, with a March 2016 release date in mind. But test audiences hated the film so much, that reshoots became inevitable and the film didn't see the light of day until October 2017.

The reshoots were incredibly extensive, adding in tonnes of new characters and sub plots, including one about the US president, played by Andy Garcia, getting kidnapped. Wait, what has that got to do with a satellite that controls the weather?

Devlin was also effectively removed from the project, with Dan Cannon taking his place. The reshoots added another $40 million to the production budget and after it failed to whip up a storm at the box-office, Skydance lost around $80 million.

Lesson to Hollywood: Don't spend tonnes of money on a film starring Gerard Butler. It rarely ends well.
