12 Sci-Fi Movies Plagued By Reshoots

4. Fantastic Four (2015)

"A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it. That's reality though."

Everyone knows of the infamous tweet from Josh Trank, trashing his own movie the day before its release.

20th Century Fox had tried and failed to make a good Fantastic Four movie for decades. But there was reason for optimism when they hired Trank, director of the awesome superhero found-footage flick Chronicle. Factor in talented young actors Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell and a bad-ass teaser trailer, and the reboot was sure to be a big hit.

But then it all went wrong. There are some many crazy behind-the-scenes stories, it's hard to know what actually happened, so here's a brief summary:

Fox were unimpressed by Trank's vision, so the script received constant rewrites during filming, including changing the ending completely. Trank is alleged to have shown erratic behaviour on set, getting into a fight with Teller and trashing his own accommodation.

The studio hated the initial cut so mass reshoots were commissioned, which led to plenty of plot holes and blatant continuity errors, such as Mara's ever-changing wig and Teller's facial hair, which came and went between shots. Towards the end of production, Trank was no longer working on the film, which goes some way to explain why the movie drastically falls apart after the half-way mark.

Fant4stic was a complete disaster from start to finish. Widely panned as one of the worst superhero movies of all time, Fox lost around $100 million and Trank has stated that, despite requests for it, there will never be a directors cut, as many of the sequences he planned were never filmed and Fox practically destroyed anything good about the film.

Here's hoping Kevin Feige can do a better job.
