12 Truly Heartbreaking Facts About Film In 2016
3. Garry Marshall's Final Film Was Absolutely Terrible
Garry Marshall was the legendary filmmaker behind Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride and the Princess Diaries movies. Sure, he made his share of duds over the years, but his movies made a ton of money and it's hard to deny the cultural impact the aforementioned films in particular have had.
Marshall passed away in 2016 at the age of 81 and the news was met with countless tributes from those who worked with him. It's a shame Marshall ended his life and career with one of his very worst directorial efforts to date, then, Mother's Day, the critically-panned third entry into Marshall's seasonal-themed "franchise" of romantic dramas, preceded by Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, of course.
Despite starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston alongside a fine ensemble cast, this one was a critical bomb, scoring just 7% on Rotten Tomatoes, and proving only moderately successful at the box office.
Sadly Marshall didn't have another Pretty Woman in him, just an easy cash-grab. On the other hand, though, it could've been worse. It could've been Exit to Eden, Marshall's Razzie-winning 1994 comic thriller.
