5. Nobody Paid To See Original, Unique Movies

While many decry the lack of original movies coming out of Hollywood, a big part of the problem is that people just aren't taking a chance and spending their cash on said movies.

For instance, the brilliant likes of Midnight Special, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, The Nice Guys and Kubo and the Two Strings were all dead-on-arrival at the box office, despite scoring strong critical acclaim.

Hopefully each will fare a little better on the home video circuit, but it's still a dispiriting sign of the times that something as mediocre and forgettable as The Legend of Tarzan can pull in $350 million (because abs!), when lower-budget, left-field projects struggle to get made because they're seen as such a gamble.
