12 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For
Toy Story was DONE.
Sequels are what keep Hollywood afloat, and as lazy as many of them can be, at their best they're basically an exercise in giving the people what they want.
After all, who isn't hype for the likes of Avengers: Endgame, Frozen 2 and Star Wars: Episode IX? Elsewhere there's every prospect that A Quiet Place 2 could be good, and don't we all want that much-discussed Mad Max: Fury Road sequel to finally materialise?
And even then, there are those sequels that could fail, like the belated Zombieland: Double Tap, but you can at least see what everyone involved is aiming for. For others, it's tough to see why they exist beyond merely generating profits for their respective studios, and honestly, that just isn't good enough these days.
12. Indiana Jones 5
Release Date: July 9, 2021
There's no denying the classic status of the original Indiana Jones trilogy, but between the wildly underwhelming fourth movie and Harrison Ford entering his late 70s by the time this new sequel gets shooting, who really wants a fifth film?
While Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a fun victory lap for Han Solo which rightly concluded with his demise and Blade Runner 2049 wasn't reliant on Ford's physicality, Indiana Jones 5 can neither move on from Indy nor make the character a static object, so what's the point?
As spry as Ford seemed in 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a decade-plus counts for a lot at his age, and honestly, it's probably best to just leave it with one mediocre sequel rather than risking two in a row.
Could It Be Any Good?: If a younger protege character is brought in to literally do the heavy lifting, then perhaps Indy could transition into the aged mentor role with some level of grace.
Putting Indy in a role similar to that of his father (Sean Connery) in The Last Crusade could work, but do we really want an Indy movie which clips the hero's wings and tones down everything that made him so iconic in the first place?
