12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To
4. Sleeping Beauties
Sleeping Beauties is King's latest novel (prior to the upcoming The Outsiders), co-written by son Owen and released last year. The story opens with the women of the world falling asleep, a cobweb-like covering of silken strands flowing from their faces. If disturbed, they launch into a murderous, vengeful rage. In their absence, the men of the world... well lets say they struggle.
It plays out like classic King, with a large, colorful cast of characters almost designed to be turned into a series or feature film at some point. And it's likely that "some point" will be sooner rather than later.
Before the novel even hit shelves, the rights had been picked up by Anonymous Content. They're putting together a series based on the book, with Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta at the helm. Sugar is known for the controversial 13 Reasons Why and The O.A., both on Netflix. Zalta heads up Sugar23, Sugar's production studio, which has a first-look deal with Anonymous Content.
The end result is that it would not be at all surprising to see Sleeping Beauties on Netflix at some point. If not there, then network TV is still a possibility — after all, CBS gave it a shot with Under the Dome.
