12 Worst Movie Spin-Offs Ever Made
5. Elektra
Back in the early-to-mid 2000s, it seemed as though virtually every comic book property that Hollywood could get their hands on was being given the movie treatment. After her well-received turn in Daredevil, Jennifer Garner was given the opportunity to headline her own spinoff, and while Ben Affleck's first stab at playing a superhero isn't quite the cinematic trainwreck that it's reputation would suggest, Elektra most definitely is.
The movie's failure, along with that of another one we'll get to shortly, is cited as one of the major reasons that female-driven comic book movies remained at the bottom of every studio's list of priorities for more than a decade, as well as significantly hampering Garner's career right around the time she seemed destined to break out as a huge star.
She doesn't give a terrible performance by any stretch of the imagination, but the actress is let down by poor creative choices, muddled action, a woeful script and the bizarre decision to give Elektra's solo debut a thunderously dull and self-serious tone, and then trying to balance it alongside scenes of weapon-assisted martial arts and astral projection.
