13 Best Movies From Otherwise Terrible Franchises
3. Aliens - Alien Franchise
Other Films: Alien, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Aliens is one of the most exciting films ever made. A pulse-pounding, tripwire-tense and consistently exhilarating slice of blockbuster heaven that somehow finds a beating heart and soul amidst all the action, Aliens is a genre masterpiece.
The debate about whether or not Aliens is better than its beloved predecessor, Alien, is an old one. Since it's got more substance and a better script, it's arguable that Aliens is the superior film. Some will disagree with that, but one thing that most will probably agree on is that the franchise's other films aren't worth the time of day.
Alien 3 was a huge step down and Alien: Resurrection is a terrible movie that's too silly to take seriously.
Then, as if the legacy of the first two films hadn't been ruined enough already, Ridley Scott made two nonsensical prequels which gave the franchise's alien antagonist a backstory it never needed.
So yes, this franchise is mostly terrible, but at least it gave us not one but two science-fiction classics, which is impressive since most franchises (like many on this list) have just one great movie.
