13 Best & Worst Movies From 2014 Oscar Nominees

9. Chiwetel Ejiofor

Best: Kinky Boots (2005) It's nowhere near as critically lauded as the likes of Dirty Pretty Things or Children Of Men, but Ejiofor's most enjoyable performance, as well as his most immersive came in a lesser seen feel good British dramedy about the impact a transvestite has on small cottage industry. Based on a true story, the film follows a shoe factory owner who turns to fetish footwear, and Lola - Ejiofor's brilliantly performed cross-dresser - to drag his company out of the red. Lola is a glorious character creation, and the juxtaposition of flamboyance and miserable industrialism is genius. Worst: Savannah (2013) 2012 was pretty awful, but it is the more recent adaptation 0f Ward Allen: Savannah River Market Hunter - the other true story Ejiofor starred in last year. In contrast to 12 Years A Slave, the story was neither compelling nor entertaining, and you have to wonder why anyone thought it worthy of a book, let alone a film.
