12. William Shatner Will Appear As Future Kirk - Star Trek Beyond

The Theory: William Shatner will make a cameo appearance as an older version of Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, likely to provide some sage advice to the crew in a moment of peril or uncertainty. Why It Could Be True: The rebooted Star Trek series has already explored this what with Leonard Nimoy appearing in both J.J. Abrams films, but now that he's sadly passed away, it would certainly be interesting to see Shatner, who previously complained about not being invited to the party, to pull the same trick with Kirk. Fanboys would be squealing with delight, that's for sure. Why It Probably Won't Be: It would seem pretty lazy to recycle the same narrative device for a third time, and considering that Star Trek Into Darkness was criticised for leaning too heavily on the legacy of Shatner's Trek, this would likely only bring those complaints surging back. Plus, Shatner hasn't exactly aged as gracefully as Nimoy did, and given the actor's reputation for hamming it up combined with how distracting his presence might be, it just seems like it might drag audiences out of the movie rather than enhance it.
