12. Die Hard (1988)
It's Based On The Book... "Nothing Lasts Forever" By Roderick Thorp You hear that? It's the cries of a million action movie junkies who have spent years deeming literature "a pretentious waste of time," only to discover that even their precious
Die Hard was conjured up from the pages of a novel. "Are you kidding me?
Die Hard ain't based on no sissy
book!" one of them might have shouted, if this was a teen movie from 1986. Yep:
Die Hard, that blood-soaked action classic with all those explosions and swearing was based on a book called "Nothing Lasts Forever" by a man named Roderick Thorp, originally published back in 1979. "Nothing Lasts Forever" might sound like one of Ian Fleming's discarded Bond titles, but this book was actually the second in a running series about a private detective who gets into scrapes. And by scrapes, I mean the plot of
Die Hard.
How Close Is It To The Book? Close, although John McClane is called Joe Leland (what the ?) and Hans Gruber is called Tony Gruber. I'm deeming none of that acceptable.
