13 Incredibly Stupid Moments From Superman Movies

8. Absolutely Everything - Superman IV

Superman Mr Nuclear In the long and cloudy history of bad sequels, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace ranks highly in the upper echelons of rubbishness. It is poorly written, poorly characterized (despite the fact that the characters have been around for three other movies) and it is criminally lazy, ripping off the entire flight sequence from the first movie, almost beat for beat. But the biggest issue with the film is that it is mind-numbingly stupid. The plot is ludicrous, featuring anti-capitalist ravings, a green message that somehow ignores the fact that the UN would furiously fight any attempt to disarm the entire world, and a villain made of Superman's DNA who looks precisely nothing like him, as if Gene Hackman somehow isolated the gene responsible for Superman's latent blonde maniac side. There's a badly dubbed child, some of the worst acting seen on screen from Margot Kidder and a slow-motion moon battle that typifies how God-awfully cheesy the whole mess is. There is literally nothing that redeems Superman IV: even the gloss of nostalgia fails to add anything to it.
