9. Superman Lives - Batman v Superman

For all of Batman v Superman's issues, the emotional ending that shows Superman still willing to die for humanity's sins (right on the nose there with the Jesus allegory, eh Zack?) rings absolutely true. It manages to overcome the fact that Superman manages to get around the Kryptonite draining his powers and the unearned threat of Doomsday, and really that deserves a medal.

The film also manages to inspire genuine mourning when we see two funerals for Clark and Superman, and you get a real sense of loss. But then, almost as soon as he's resting in his grave, Snyder can't resist teasing the fact that it's another one of those Disney deaths (albeit outside of Disney). In other words, it doesn't last, as we get a loaded shot of his coffin disturbing the Earth above it.

It hasn't yet played out fully, but we already know that Superman is back in Justice League (all that remains is the specifics of his return). Makes you wonder, somewhat, why they didn't just wait to show he was alive in that film, to be honest...
