The Movie: Ericson Core (Invincible) tackles a remake of the classic Kathryn Bigelow-directed, Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze-starring cult action flick, with Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez taking over the respective parts. Why The Fanboys Will Hate It: Because there's a ton of love for the original movie, flaws and all, as best evidenced by Edgar Wright's constant referencing to it in Hot Fuzz. Those who love '90s action flicks will almost certainly find it redundant and pointless (even though it's reportedly quite different), and virtual unknown Bracey is going to have to work extremely hard to live up to Reeves' popularity in the part. Plus, there's a good chance it'll tone down the silliness of the original movie and actually try to take itself seriously, which is a recipe for disaster. Will It Succeed Anyway?: Nobody involved with it is a box office name, so this one could easily bomb. Plus, a movie revolving around a gang of extreme sports enthusiasts is a weird project to release at Christmas: shouldn't this be coming out in the summer? Instead, it's going to face stiff competition from David O. Russell's Joy, The Revenant, Star Wars Episode VII, a new Chipmunks movie, the Will Smith-starring Concussion, Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden film and animated movie Monster Trucks. Yep, even if it's well-reviewed, this one's toast.
