13 Outrageously Awful 2014 Performances That Deserve Razzies
6. Cameron Diaz As Hannigan - Annie
Much like Kiefer Sutherland's performance in Pompeii, Cameron Diaz delivers a performance of such staggering hamminess in this update of the classic musical that it's broached right between being outrageously entertaining and facepalm-inducingly awful. As the movie wears on, though, Diaz's shtick as the cruel head of Annie's care home becomes increasingly irritating, and there's the overwhelming feeling that she was totally miscast in the part. Her shrieking and cartoonish bleating makes a further headache out of a movie that's already butchering a number of classic songs without a care in the world. Also, perhaps in large part due to the naff script, Diaz fails to make her character's turnaround at the end of the story at all convincing. This all combines to make her stick out like a sore thumb in every scene, hamming it up while the rest of the cast keeps things decidedly more grounded. Could this be Diaz's fourth Razzie nomination? And can it finally win her the gong outright?
