13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans
4. We Do Not Want More Villains
Why does Hollywood insist on taking every franchise and turning it into a circus? Has that ever really worked? Did the Schumacher Batman films, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Spider-Man 3 teach them nothing? It wasn't enough that they took the Man of Steel sequel and threw Batman in the mix as an adversary... they now have Lex Luthor, AND some other yet unnamed threat in the mix. When is Superman supposed to show up? He is going to be so tired. Look at the newest Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer: sure they are setting up the Sinister Six... but they are also throwing pretty much every major Spidey villain into the mix as well. When has that ever been a good plan for an entertaining film? How much webbing does this guy have in stock? It is not even just comic-book films anymore: Hollywood is throwing every villain possible into every sequel and franchise it can and you have to question why? All of these extra villains, cameos and 'extras' do very little to get us excited. It just makes us exhausted. We are an ADD generation, but even we can get worn out trying to keep up with your attempt to throw everything in your arsenal on screen at the same time. Hollywood would do well to remember the mistakes of the past and with a good story and clever casting, one villain suits us just fine. Of course, with that said, you can just picture some executive looking at a script and thinking, 'Hmm, what if we had 4 HEROES...'
