8. Thor: The Dark World The Death Of Sif
Please understand, this is just my opinion (and it's probably wrong), but I get the feeling from the trailer that it's not only Rene Russo's Frigga whose getting an expanded part in the sequel. And honestly, I'm rather pleased while the main Asgardian trio got to engage in all sorts of Shakespearean pomp and circumstance last time around, I felt Lady Sif and the Warriors Three were slightly underdeveloped as supporting characters. Yes, they got lines, but there was only the cursory mention of any backstory for all four of them. Sif's background that of a rebellious woman who refused to bow to cultural norms and became a warrior instead could be a rich mine for dramatic development both in terms of herself and Thor, her biggest supporter. Yet as movie cliché-watchers know only too well, granting a supporting character an expanded role can often mean the Grim Reaper's waiting in the wings. For my money, if anyone's going to fulfil the role of heroic sacrifice in The Dark World, it's going to be Sif. We know she's getting stuck into the battle scenes, we know she's carrying a torch for Thor and we can theorise from that glance in the trailer that she's not overly fond of Jane. So, my guess is that she's going to sacrifice herself to save Thor's love interest, whose clearly going to be subjected to some sort of Dark Elf-themed peril. It'll be a big character-changing moment, and it just falls to the filmmakers how they choose to make the whole thing go down.
