6. X-Men: Days Of Future Past The Introduction Of Peter Dinklage's Bolivar Trask
Ok, so this one's just like a big, perfect storm of geek interests. If you don't know who Peter Dinklage is, you've clearly been behind for a couple of years, and missed one of the best shows on TV in Game Of Thrones. If you still don't know he's Tyrion Lannister, the Half-Man of Westeros and favourite character of most of the audience. Horrific British accent aside (I really don't know what he's attempting there, and I'm from those islands), you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a bad word to say about him. He's just awesome all round really. So with his past record in mind, I'm really excited to see what he brings to the table as Bolivar Trask in X-Men Days Of Future Past. For those who don't know, Trask is the creator of Sentinels and something of a tragic figure in the X-Men universe. Informed by Magneto's lust for all-out assault against humankind, Trask creates a robotic security force to keep regular humans safe from his attacks but soon finds himself over-matched by his rebellious creations. If the film ends up anything like the comic of the same name, it's Trask's efforts that lead to the Sentinels taking over the United States and most probably, the world. Playing a character of huge intelligence yet positively soaked in tragedy is right in Dinklage's wheelhouse remember, he's been knocking it out the park doing exactly the same thing in Game Of Thrones for the last three years. Mix this with Trask's ideological fervor that mutants aren't to be trusted and you've got in a winning combination that can create all sorts of debate. In my view, X-Men is never better than when it delves into civil rights allegories, and if you can't trust a man with an Emmy to create a character brimming with pathos yet still holding controversial viewpoints, then who can you trust?
