14 Announced Movies That Are Never Coming Out

Minecraft is one of the most successful video games in history, and despite not being particularly cinematic, it's not at all shocking that a movie adaptation was announced in 2014.

Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) was first hired to direct and eventually replaced by It's Always Sunny's Rob McElhenney. McElhenney himself bailed a few weeks ago, while the writers were also replaced and the release date was pushed back from its original May 24, 2019 date to an unspecified slot.

With no director, no release date and no cast - beyond two-year-old rumours that Steve Carell may star - this thing's dead in the water.

It shouldn't be that hard to get a Minecraft movie out there for a sensible budget and make some easy cash, but given how protective Majong has been over the property, they may ultimately decide the film isn't worth the potential damage it could do to the brand.
