11. Shaak Ti's Death

Lucasfilm

Which Episode? Revenge Of The Sith

Where would it be in film? In the opening on The Invisible Hand, before Anakin and Obi-Wan make it to the Chancellor.

What happens? It turns out Anakin and Obi-Wan weren't the only Jedi trying to rescue Palpatine; background Jedi Shaak Ti was also on the case and found herself captured by General Grievous. When the famed pair turn up, she's executed with (assumedly) her own lightsaber. Anakin and Obi-Wan then escape through the ship's fuel tanks and the movie continues. Ti appears as a hologram later in the film, so this was clearly not meant to be taken as canon.

Should it have been cut? It's an immediate show of how ruthless Grievous is, but undercuts the later whip-smart meeting between him and Anakin; it's cool, but really just a death for the sake of it. Given that the opening of the film is already a pretty lengthy diversion it's one of the more logical elements to cut. Shaak Ti's death has been moved around to various points in the continuity; in the Episode III novelisation she's killed by Anakin when he attacks the Temple, while in The Force Unleashed, set between the two trilogies, she's one of the boss fights.
