14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

12. The LEGO Movie

Release Date: 7th February (US), 14th February (UK) Why It€™s A Must See: Is there anything more nostalgic than a movie about LEGO? In past ten years or so, through Traveller€™s Tales consistently fun game series, LEGO has altered its image from little pieces of plastic that hurt when you step on them to that of a pop culture savvy, tongue-in-cheek franchise. The LEGO Movie, brought to us by brilliant multi-taskers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (also behind the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street), looks set to continue that. The entire world is built from a mixture of real and computer generated LEGO bricks, which promises a particularly unique look, while the suitably bonkers story deals with an every-figure wrapped up in plot to destroy the whole LEGO universe. In a year with no Pixar and other animation houses focusing on sequels, this may be a bright light. Why You Should Be Worried: Will it be too crazy for the big screen? If The Harry Hill Movie has taught us anything it€™s that what€™s wonderfully silly at home doesn€™t always have the same impact on the big screen. Could it be the same here? The trailers certainly suggest so; there€™s a mix of a heavy reliance on twisting conceptions of existing characters and obvious brick based jokes. And let€™s not forget that, even more than your regular blockbusters, this one has a big eye on selling toys. Bottom Line: Batman€™s in it, so you'll no doubt see it.
