14 Most Disappointing Movies From Summer 2015

9. Vacation

Why It's Disappointing: While nobody really asked for a remake of the classic 1983 Chevy Chase comedy, the red-band trailers proved surprisingly hilarious and suggested a self-aware reboot that was going to stand tall as a new take on the original. Unfortunately, Vacation gave away a lot of its prime rib material in the trailers, and the final film just can't at all live up to the legendary legacy of the original (even with cameos from Chase and co-star Beverly D'Angelo). The increasingly cruel humour becomes exhausting by film's end, Ed Helms can't quite match up to Chase's leading man status (despite his fair effort), and the charm of the original just isn't here at all. How To Improve It: For starters, probably ditch the Vacation name and make it its own thing. Then give the film more of a tonal balance, throw some more unexpected cameos into the mix (because they're probably the movie's best asset), and if the film wants the audience to actually like the family, then maybe don't make them seem like such a**holes.
