With The Walt Disney Company Investor Day playing out yesterday, a presentation there saw a whole load of nerds get a whole load of excited.

For fans of Star Wars, there are more projects on the way than you can shake a lightsaber at, while Alien fans are finally getting an Earth-set TV series. But for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Again, there was some fantastic news as a slew of upcoming projects - both for the big and small screen - were announced.

In total, there are now a goosebumps-inducing 14 MCU films confirmed as being on the horizon. With 23 MCU movies already in our rear-view mirror, this shared cinematic realm shows no signs of slowing down as it maps out its path for the next few years.

To add further to the excitement of those with a penchant for the characters of Marvel Comics, there are also numerous Marvel-driven pictures in various stages of development at Sony Pictures. For now though, we're focussing solely on those films that will exist within the confines of the MCU.

So, let's dive in and explore what the MCU is set to offer up in 2021 and beyond.

If 2020 wasn't, well, 2020, we'd have all long since seen Scarlett Johansson headline her own Black Widow movie.

Originally, that picture was booked into hit the silver screen this past May. Like so many other big-budget films, Black Widow was pushed back, and pushed back, and pushed back - until here we are, with the movie currently scheduled to be released in May 2021.

From director Cate Shortland, Black Widow will serve as a prequel of sorts. Of course, Johansson's Natasha Romanoff was one of the few characters properly killed off by the time that Avengers: Endgame drew to its glorious conclusion, and thus this Black Widow film will take place in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War.

In Black Widow, we'll see Nat returning to her roots, with the picture delving deep into the how and why Natasha Romanoff become the badass, brutal, oft-duplicitous assassin that we all know and love. Also, long-time comic book fans are chomping at the bit to see the nefarious Taskmaster as the 'big bad' of the piece. For those not familiar with that rogue, he's a fascinating villain who is able to expertly mimic any and all fighting styles.

Elsewhere, it's believed that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark will make a small appearance in Black Widow, too.
