7. Have Reed, Victor & Johnny Enter Planet Zero Sober

Another big sticking point of the film is the wildly unnecessary moment in which Reed, Victor and Johnny enter Planet Zero only because they get drunk and decide they want to "plant their flag" there before anyone else can. As such, it can be argued that, had they been sober, they may not have had an accident while there, or better yet, may not have even used the gate in the first place. Why not just have them be frustrated scientists who don't want their "baby" taken away from them by NASA? What do these drunken antics add? Having the group be fascinated by the sheer thrill of discovery or even being young, arrogant scientists drunk on their own power would both make more sense and not seem as ridiculous as them sipping a hilariously small canteen of liquor before taking the trip. It's stupid and one of the movie's worst creative decisions. Plus, this one could be cut from the script with a five-minute revision, so it defines "simple fix".
