14 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
3. Happy Death Day
Release Date: October 13
Why It Should Suck: Groundhog Day-inspired movies are all the rage at the moment in just about every genre, and now a horror movie has joined the fray to offer its own spin on what is fast becoming, yes, a formula.
Plus, Christopher B. Langdon's (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse) directing, the cast consists of largely unknown actors who could go either way, and the title is just hideous.
Why It Might Be Awesome: For one, the concept, of a young woman reliving the same day every time she's killed by a masked assailant, is undeniably clever, and should at least ensure this is a unique spin on typical slasher movie tropes.
Plus, it's being produced by Blumhouse Productions, which has a record of supporting low-budget horror gems, so this could very well end up one of the year's most unassuming cult classics.
