15 Most Anticipated Films Of The 2014 Sundance Film Festival

4. The Skeleton Twins (Craig Johnson)

Saturday Night Live alums Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader are starring together in the same film as depressed siblings? I'm already convinced to see The Skeleton Twins, the second feature from director and co-writer Craig Johnson. Having previously directed True Adolescents starring Mark Duplass and Melissa Leo, Johnson is definitely steering towards darker material. Wiig and Hader star as Maggie and Milo, estranged siblings who live on opposite sides of the country who are both at the "end of their ropes." A crisis reunites them in their hometown in New York where they hope to fix what is broken. It'll be great to discover if Wiig and Hader can excel in a film that's obviously more dramatic and darker than their previous efforts.

3. Whiplash (Damien Chazelle)

Miles Teller had a fantastic 2013, having starred in James Ponsoldt's acclaimed drama The Spectacular Now opposite Shailene Woodley and it looks like he's going to have an even better year in 2014. To kick things off, Teller has a starring role in the anticipated drama Whiplash, the feature version of director Damien Chazelle's short film of the same title that premiered last year at Sundance. Whiplash centers on a young aspiring drummer (Teller) who suffers emotional abuse while under the direction of his relentless instructor (J.K. Simmons). The film has been described as "Full Metal Jacket at Julliard," which is definitely intriguing, if not strange. It also makes sense as J.K. Simmons' character is supposedly reminiscent of a relentless drill sergeant that pushes the young drummer to his limits.
