15 Most Anticipated Films Of The 2014 Sundance Film Festival

6. Listen Up Philip (Alex Ross Perry)

In his follow-up to his critically acclaimed film The Color Wheel, writer and director Alex Ross Perry returns to Sundance with the seemingly peculiar comedy Listen Up Philip. Jason Schwartzman stars as the titular character Philip, a writer who impatiently awaits the publication of his second novel. Feeling out of sync in his home city and his relationship with his photographer girlfriend Ashley, Philip finds refuge at an isolated summer home owned by his idol to find peace and himself. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Alex Ross Perry shot his first feature Impolex for only $15,000, which was later rejected by both Sundance and SXSW. His second feature, The Color Wheel, earned rave reviews and established the filmmaker firmly on the right track. With the inclusion of Jason Schwartzman and Elisabeth Moss, Listen Up Philip looks like a step forward rather than step back with a story that focuses on character and story other than anything else.

5. They Came Together (David Wain)

Writer and director David Wain came to Sundance in 2001 to show his comedy feature debut Wet Hot American Summer, which has since gained a cult following of sorts and has a lot of recognizable faces such as Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, who star together in Wain's latest comedy They Came Together. Serving as a satirical homage to American romantic comedies, Rudd plays Joel, a corporate executive of a mega candy store chain who is tasked to shut down the small sweet shop owned by Molly (Poehler). The unlikely lovers form a romance that leads them to face obstacles such as crazed family members and ex-lovers. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler the lead couple is a great reason to look forward to this. I'm sure there's also going to some great supporting roles with the likes of Cobie Smulders, Christopher Meloni, Ed Helms, Melanie Lynskey, and Max Greenfield as part of the cast.
