15 Australian Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Rear Window, Richard Franklin’s Road Games moves the action from American metropolis to the Australian outback. The connections to the Master of Suspense don’t end there either. Franklin imported scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of Psycho star Janet Leigh, to star alongside fellow American actor Stacy Keach.

They play a hitchhiker – aptly nicknamed Hitch, another reference to the Master of Suspense – and a meat truck driver respectively who find themselves caught up in a game of cat and mouse with a serial killer who has a penchant for strangling hitchhikers while on the road from Melbourne to Perth.

Today, nigh on forty years after its release, it remains one of the best road movie horror-thrillers around and for what it’s worth Quentin Tarantino, who hailed Road Games one of his favourite Ozploitation movies, is a fan too.
