9. Priest (2011) - Maggie Q
RottenTomatoes Score: 16% The Plot: Humans and vampires have been at war for centuries, with the humans employing soldiers known as Priests to help bring the vamps down. With the war pretty much won, these Priests are cast out and forbidden to fight, but when one of Priests' (Paul Bettany) niece (Lily Collins) is kidnapped by surviving vampires, he must employ those very special skills, breaking his oath to bring her back. Why It Sucks: It's not the worst premise in the world and it crackles visually on occasion, but Priest is ultimately a prime example of style over substance filmmaking. Maggie Q doesn't quite embarrass herself thanks to her sex appeal and plausibility in an action-heavy role, but her character, like all others, is barely developed at all, while the plot takes itself far too seriously rather than giving in to its kitschy urges and just being silly, effects-driven fun. Released during a period where the movie market truly felt over-saturated with vampire movies (thanks, Twilight), here's one that came and went without much fanfare, so on the plus side, at least most people have already forgotten about it (well, unless they've just read this...)
