15 Awful Films Mission Impossible Actors Want You To Forget
8. Along Came Polly (2004) - Philip Seymour Hoffman
RottenTomatoes Score: 26% The Plot: After his new wife cheats on him, Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) tries to piece his life back together when he is reunited with Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston), a former high school classmate who he soon enough begins dating. Hoffman plays Sandy, Reuben's uncouth slob of a friend. Why It Sucks: This is an eye-rollingly formulaic comedy which hires an actor of Hoffman's caliber (just a short time before he won an Oscar for Capote)... and then does absolutely nothing with him. He memorably talks about "sharting", and he plays the loudmouth sidekick role fine enough, but really, Hoffman must've had a dump-truck full of cash piled on his lawn to end up in such a generic offering. The characters just aren't very likable or memorable and their actions frequently don't make much sense, but the film's worst problem is that there's just not much chemistry to speak of between Stiller and Aniston: they're not at all plausible as a couple from start to finish.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
