Spider-Man: Homecoming served up one hell of a surprise when Peter heads to Liz's house to pick her up for prom and discovers that her father is none other than the Vulture himself, Adrian Toomes.

What follows is one of the most awkward and tense car rides in recent movie history, as Toomes gleefully toys with a nervous Peter, all while Liz is blissfully unaware.

Liz heads inside while Adrian prepares to give Peter "the dad talk", but instead pulls out a gun and immediately begins grilling a distressed Peter about being Spider-Man. Toomes memorably warns Peter that if he interferes with his business again, "I'll kill you, and everybody you love. I'll kill you dead."

This is genuinely one of the most suspenseful and well-directed scenes in the entire MCU, and it didn't need a single visual effect or action beat. Michael Keaton's performance is deliciously sinister, and fantastic use of close-ups cement just how physically imposing he really can be.
