8. Hush
Unique, tense and suspenseful, Hush is a slasher film directed and edited by Mike Flanagan and starring Kate Siegel who also shares co-writing credits. The story is set out in the deep woods where a deaf writer named Maddie Young isolates herself to help with her productivity and work. Her tranquillity is broken however by a killer home invader, launching the two of them into a deadly game of cat and mouse and having Maddie showcase all of her impressive survival skills.
What makes Hush so uniquely terrifying is the atmosphere conveyed through the film's direction; Flanagan employs things such as ultrasound machines and steadicams in order for the audience to spend most of the film experiencing things how Maddie does, though does occasionally throw in some ambient sounds such as the killer tapping his chest to help add a new dimension to the tension.
Completely stripping them one of their core senses makes Hush one of the most uniquely terrifying horror films on Netflix. The direction of Flanagan and performance of Siegel is an awesome combination, and the film is currently sat with a score of 67/100 on Metacritic and an approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
