7. It Comes At Night

A tale of distrust and tense paranoia, It Comes At Night is set following the outbreak of a highly contagious virus that has swept across the world and led to families retreating to secluded safehavens out in the woodlands and countryside.

The film follows Paul and Will, the respective heads of their families, and their experiences dodging the infected world around them, whilst confronting the increasing tension and paranoia that arises the longer the film progresses. The true horror of this film comes from seeing these two genuinely loving and honest families being driven to committing some truly ghastly acts all because of their fear and suspicion of one another.

The overarching threat of what is lurking in the woods around the two families helps playing into the tone of the film beautifully, with the audiences trust being thrown from one side to another as each character's layers are stripped away. The film was expected to gross just $7 million from a budget of under 5, but went onto record a box office total of just under $20 million.

It Comes At Night currently holds an aggregate score of 78/100 on Metacritic, with Rotten Tomatoes topping praise for the film with a review rating of 87%.
