5. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Though many might prefer the first full trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, some of its more transparent tricks (trying to suggest Leia would die and Rey would turn to the Dark Side) were more eye-rolling than intriguing.

Far more effective with its more restrained approach was the original teaser trailer released last April, which provided only hints of what was to come, while emphasising the sheer visual spectacle, and ending on a haunting, provocative line from Luke (Mark Hamill): "It's time for the Jedi...to end."

Granted, the marketing for The Last Jedi didn't need to try particularly hard, and the film likely would've cracked $1 billion without any further trailers being released, but the spoiler-averse nature of all the film's marketing is something most other movie franchises could learn something from.
