15 Best Movie Trailers Of 2017
4. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Fox Searchlight dropped the first trailer for Martin McDonagh's masterful black comedy way back in March of last year, and though it doesn't feature any epic CGI showdowns or awesome superheroes, it was an hysterically funny tease that perfectly conveyed the movie's R-rated tone.
The red band trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri pretty much confirmed Frances McDormand as an Oscar contender months before the movie had ever been screened, while also highlighting terrific supporting work from Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson.
Few could watch this trailer and then complain that the movie was too dark: it fully embraces how tragic the central conceit it, and how expertly it's balanced with some of the year's most riotous laughs.
