15 Best Netflix Original Movies You Probably Missed
6. Small Crimes
The Plot: Former corrupt cop Joe Denton (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is released from prison, and despite his desire to leave his ugly past behind him, it has a nasty habit of continually bubbling up to the surface.
Adapted from Dave Zeltserman's acclaimed 2008 crime novel, Small Crimes is an unassuming little indie neo-noir that scored fairly mixed reviews upon release, but thanks to Coster-Waldau's entertaining, subtly sad performance, it's easily one of Netflix's most underrated Originals to date.
It owes a lot to its genre predecessors, but gleefully revels in its own demented absurdity, and manages to be both darkly hilarious and genuinely grimy all at the same time.
It's not up to the standard of E.L. Katz's debut Cheap Thrills, but Small Crimes nevertheless deserves a better fate than its divisive reception implies.
