It’s been two decades since Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting blistered its way into pop culture canon and though releasing a follow-up film, especially after so much time has passed, normally wouldn’t bode well it looks like T2 Trainspotting could buck the trend of the cursed sequel.

Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewen Bremner return as Renton, Sick Boy and Spud respectively with a brief glimpse of the ever-terrifying Begbie (Robert Carlyle) while the trailer cleverly harks back to the original film with Renton’s legendary ‘Choose Life’ monologue set to the pounding beat of Underworld’s Born Slippy but updated for more post-social media, in your early forties kind of content.

It’s rumoured to be only loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting sequel novel Porno, but like the book it seems like the movie’s antiheroes are certainly older, but not necessarily any the wiser.
