A few months ago Warner Brothers delayed Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to 2016, placing it right next to Marvel's Captain America 3 on May 6th. Fans everywhere began debating about which film would "win" the box office that weekend, and before long we were all placing bets on a superhero showdown that was never actually going to happen. Sure enough, Warner Brothers have changed their strategy, and shifted the Batman V Superman release date six weeks earlier, to March 25, 2016. While many were quick to jump down their throats and claim that they had "blinked first" or backed away from Marvel, the truth of the matter is that Warner Bros. was just doing what was best for business. It may not be traditional to place a tentpole film in the Spring, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier found tremendous success in April, and The Hunger Games became a massive hit for Lionsgate when it arrived in theaters in March 2012. Warner Bros.' success stories with films like The LEGO Movie and Gravity, which opened in February and October, respectively, also show that the "summer blockbuster season" is quickly disappearing. Instead, every season is blockbuster season.
