The Scene: The final section of The Lego Movie takes place in the real world, as it's revealed that the real villain of the movie is "the Man Upstairs" (Will Ferrell), the father of the boy who has been playing with his dad's Lego set the whole time, Finn. The film's Lego villain, President Business, is of course modeled on Finn's dad, who favours order and hates Finn's crude yet imaginative Lego creations. When he realises his son's view of him, however, he makes peace with him and allows him to build the Lego as he sees fit, while also allowing Finn's sister, the Duplo fiend, to play with them too. Why It's So WTF: Few people probably saw this one coming, and while it could easily have resulted in a goofy ending to an otherwise brilliant film, the cutting between the real world and its impact on the Lego world is thrilling to watch, and the live-action drama between Finn and his dad is surprisingly emotional. Above all else, it's a testament to the joy of playing with those coloured plastic blocks, and it somehow manages to do this without feeling like a giant Lego advert.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
