9. Dr Eric Vornoff - Bride Of The Monster
Played by Bela Lugosi in one of his last roles, Dr Vornoff is your archetypal 50s B movie scientist: he has a henchman named Lobo, a creepy castle just outside town and an octopus in a tank in his basement.
He also wants to create a race of giants that will conquer the world, and has designed a machine for just such a purpose. Well, he calls it a machine. This being an Ed Wood movie, it seems to consist of a gurney and a colander that’s placed over the subject’s head.
In the end, Lobo rebels and decides to give the doc a taste of his own medicine. You won’t believe the scene where frail, diminutive Lugosi is turned into a giant through the use of forced perspective and platform shoes.
