3. All That Ghostbusters Controversy
Though the controversy surrounding this summer's Ghostbusters reboot didn't begin this summer season or even this year, it's safe to say that things reached a depressing, irritating fever pitch in the weeks leading up to its release.
If you liked what you saw from trailers you were an "SJW" or studio shill, and if you voiced any criticisms you were a misogynistic a**hole. Both sides of the debate helped create an incredibly toxic landscape for the movie to arrive on, and perhaps explains why the general public simply lost interest in the movie, causing it to bomb at the box office.
Why It's Dumb: The movie really wasn't worth all that fuss either way: it was fine, but hardly inspired or especially memorable, though it certainly wasn't the trainwreck many of the hardcore crowd wanted it to be.
It has come and gone and few will probably be talking about it a year from now, especially as the prospect of a sequel has basically dried up. Hopefully we can all learn something from the hateful bile spewed about this movie: it's just a damn film and should not be integral to your own personal identity.
