8. The Death Of Stalin

A History of Violence
Entertainment One Films

The Death of Stalin is a two-part graphic novel released in 2010 and 2012. The first volume focuses on Joseph Stalin's subordinates scrambling to keep their leader alive after he suffers a stroke. In the second volume, Stalin's lackeys clamour to fill the void of power after he dies.

It's clear the story is a satire but the film adaption, although extremely faithful to the source material, highlights the comedy exponentially.

One of the only elements that wasn't incorporated in the film was the scene where Stalin's son, Vasily, runs into his father's quarters after learning he is gravely ill. Unaware that he has already died, Vasily walks into Stalin's autopsy, witnessing the surgeons dissecting his mid-section and pulling out his brain.

Misconstruing the doctors for assassins, Vasily whips out his pistol and shoots them all. Even though this misunderstanding is hilariously ridiculous, it would've been too gruesome to depict such a scene in a comedy.
