15 Foreign Language Horror Movie Gems Hidden On Netflix
12. Out Of The Dark (1995)
Hong Kong director Stephen Chow is mostly known for hits like Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. But before that he wrote and starred in this striking film as a mental patient and wannabe ghostbuster who teams up with a spirited young girl and a ragtag group of security guards to try and fend off the evil that seems to be lurking in an old apartment building. It mixes together a whole host of different genres, from gory and supernatural horror to crime action shootouts to satirical comedy and much more; one of the most enjoyable aspects is the fact that the main character is a sort of parody of Leon: The Professional. It can sometimes feel a little schizophrenic in nature but the hodgepodge of ideas is part of what makes it such a fun ride. Available on UK/Canadian/Australian/New Zealand/Irish Netflix
I am a freelance writer specializing in film, writing for a number of different websites including my own ThoughtsOnFilm.co.uk, for which I am the editor and main writer. I am also the Freelance Film/TV Editor for student-focused magazine/website Scotcampus. I watch as many films as I can with some of my favourites including The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Mulholland Drive. I'm just a passionate film fan expressing his opinion.
