15 Foreign Language Horror Movie Gems Hidden On Netflix
9. We Are What We Are (2010)
Cannibalism has been explored in horror in everything from Cannibal Holocaust to the Hannibal series. Its given a socio-political angle in this skin-crawling Mexican horror-drama that was recently remade in the U.S. by Jim Mickle. It centres on a family thrown into turmoil when the overbearing patriarch unexpectedly passes away. The teenage children are left to take responsibility for the family and the day-to-day running of the house which includes preparation of rituals and the hunting to put food on the table. Its got an effectively grubby, skin-crawling vibe to it that makes for a distinctly uneasy watch. It explores worthy themes of family responsibility, loss and inner-city poverty under the guise of creeping, clinical, uncomfortable horror. Available on Canadian Netflix
